Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old Manassas Park nurse and mother, was last seen in late July 2024 and reported missing that August. Two years on, her body has never been recovered. That single fact defines the case: the Commonwealth is trying a murder with no body, and must prove she is dead and was killed at all before it can prove who did it.

Prosecutors allege pooled blood in the home

Police say they found significant pooled blood and spatter in the master bedroom and that forensic testing indicated blood loss no one could survive, with signs a body had been moved to the bathroom. Prosecutors allege human hair on a power saw

A 2026 forensic report cited in court says a handheld power saw taken from the home carried human hairs and hair fragments, referred for nuclear DNA testing, and reporting describes a claimed match between the saw and Mamta's hairbrush. Prosecutors allege her phone and accounts went permanently dark

The state says Mamta's phone was operational until about July 29, 2024, then went to voicemail, last pinged in Loudoun County, and that she never again used it or her social accounts.
